Deerwood Country Club is a private, member-owned club located in Jacksonville’s Southside neighborhood. In the 1890s (way before the Southside area was filled with subdivisions, shopping centers and multi-lane highways) the area was part of a purchase of a 50,000 acres tract of North Florida land. In 1960, nine hundred of those acres were developed into an exclusive residential community with stately homes and luxurious amenities, and Deerwood Country Club was born. Over the years, Deerwood has become a destination for golfers and tennis professionals the world over.
The Deerwood Country Club once hosted the Greater Jacksonville Open (which later became THE PLAYERS Championship). A private school (known today as Jacksonville Country Day School) was added to provide extra convenience to families and school children. In 1999, the club’s members banded together and purchased the Club, making Deerwood an equity club. A $10 million renovation to the property in 2004 included a brand-new Clubhouse, Golf Course and Fitness Center. For decades, Deerwood Country Club has been a sought-after venue for weddings, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, bar/bat mitzvahs, holiday parties and corporate meetings.
Dog Wood Park provides 42 acres of space for dogs and their human companions to swim and play. Named one of the “Top 10 Dog Parks You Need to See in Your Lifetime” by Dogster.com, Dog Wood Park is one of the largest fenced dog parks in the nation. Non-members must pay a fee, members can join the Park by the month or annually.
