Back in the late 1700’s what is now the Town of Orange Park was known as “Laurel Grove”, part of a land grant given to the Pengree family by the Spanish Governor of the territory. In 1877, the Town of Orange Park was founded by developers from Boston, Massachusetts. The town property was subdivided into building lots and small farm tracts, and much of the present street system was laid out. Many lots were planted in orange trees, for eye appeal and as a cash crop. Orange Park has its own Fire and Police Departments.
There are many current and retired military personnel and families living and working in Orange Park, because Jacksonville Naval Air Station is located approximately 6 miles North of Orange Park.
